CHED Director Raul Muyong Challenges ISAT U Graduates

At the 91st Commencement Exercises of the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISATU), on June 11, 2025, Dr. Raul F. Muyong, Director IV, of the Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance of the Commission on Higher Education, challenged its graduates on their preparedness for the workplace.  Dr. Muyong, who was the commencement speaker, is also an alumnus and holds the distinction of being the last College President of Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) and the first university president of ISATU.

In his speech, he enumerated the core skills essential and expected to be possessed by the future workforce and asked them if they possess these attributes, be able to land a job and help their parents and siblings. According to him, having been asked these questions, ISAT U graduates must be able to answer yes because he believes that Class 2025 is fortunate and privileged to be products of ISAT U. The university has equipped them with the quality education and competencies that could be the best weapon to face the battle in this highly competitive world. The university, whose students are nurtured to thrive and become innovators and leaders, has been recognized for its global standards and reputation. “The knowledge, skills, and proper values that ISAT U has instilled in you will make you future-ready and help you secure jobs and overcome the global challenges that await you.” He added that their education at ISAT U must serve as their foundation and instrument in pursuing life goals, which is to excel wherever they are and in whatever they do. Dr. Muyong also advised that excellence is not about being the best, but about doing once best. It is important, according to him to have a sense of direction such as having a dream and deciding on what to become after graduation. As a visionary leader, he reminded them to work hard, be honest and be an effective agent of change.

Class 2025 started their college education in the Academic Year 2021-2022 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. They have undergone a rigorous academic journey and experienced the tremendous challenges brought about by the pandemic, and the climate change thus making them adaptable to the hybrid form of education, the combination of Virtual Learning Education and the Face to Face Learning.

University Upholds Excellence on its 91st Commencement Exercises

The Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) marked a historic milestone as it celebrated its 91st Commencement Exercises on June 11, 2025, at the Iloilo Convention Center. The momentous occasion honored the achievements of the Class of 2025, attended by the faculty members, families, and guests, all gathered to witness the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance. The ceremony stood as a testament to the courage and determination of each graduate as they embark on a brighter future.

Dr. Raul F. Muyong, CHED Director IV and the event’s guest of honor, highlighted the vital role of the youth in shaping societal change. In his commencement address, he urged the graduates not to seek success solely for personal gain but to become instruments of transformation for others. According to Dr. Muyong, the true measure of success lies in how one’s knowledge is used to create a positive impact on the world.

A total of 4440 graduates in the whole ISAT U System received their diploma, 4,111 of which are graduates of Baccalaureate Degree, 260 from Technical Vocational, 34 from Advanced Education and 35 from the Post-Baccalaureate Degree. 1,021graduates of Baccalaureate Degree were awarded Latin honors. The breakdown includes 5 Summa Cum Laude, 366 Magna Cum Laude, and 650 Cum Laude. Among the graduates were 373 from the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA). 578 from College of Education (COE). 533 from College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). 1050 from College of Industrial Technology (CIT), 412 from Barotac Nuevo Campus, 318 from Dumangas, 157 from Leon and 1020 from Miagao Campus.  Each of them successfully completed their respective programs, reflecting their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their chosen professions.

Beyond marking the end of their academic journey, the ceremony also emphasized the beginning of a new chapter—facing greater opportunities and challenges ahead. The university extended its gratitude to the collective efforts of the students, faculty, and staff, recognizing this achievement as a product of ISAT U’s strong culture of excellence and resilience.

As the ceremony drew to a close, the graduates stepped off the stage filled with hope and confidence. Accompanied by their diplomas were the knowledge and values that would serve as their foundation in their professional endeavors. With full pride, the ISAT U community celebrated its students, now ready to face the broader world and embrace success with courage and conviction.
