The ISAT U Employees Association (ISAT U EA) sweated out in the first session of the weekly Hataw Galaw Fitness program on July 12, 2017 at the Multi-purpose Covered Gym.

Mrs. Hazel S. Bautista, ISAT U EA President, said that the Hataw Galaw was reintroduced to help the employees stay fit and healthy in carrying out their daily tasks. She added that this is in consonance to the Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 8, s. of 2011 reiterating the physical fitness program, “The Great Filipino Workout”, among government instrumentalities including State Universities and Colleges.

The Great Filipino Workout was made an integral part of the National Physical Fitness and Sports Development Program for government personnel by the Commission on April 20, 1995 through Memorandum Circular No. 6, s. of 1995.

The Hataw Galaw Fitness program, which includes a 45-minute non-stop sumba dancing and weight monitoring among the participants, is conducted every Wednesday at 4:00 P.M.. It is participated by university key officials, permanent and contractual employees.

The university observed the National Disaster Consciousness Month through an earthquake drill participated by the students, faculty and staff on July 13, 2017.

The drill rehearsed the schools preparedness in terms of observing the proper procedure in times of calamities and disasters.

Each offices and classrooms were assigned leaders to direct the proper execution of the “drop, cover, hold” practice, accounting of personnel/classmates and the safe exit to the evacuation area. The drivers on duty were also given task for fast deployment of ambulances and emergency teams.

The ROTC Cadets also demonstrated their crowd control skills and the SAVERS on the different rescue techniques.

Engr. Christian D. Misola, Director, Safety, Security,Environmental Disaster Mitigation Office, said that fire drill and unannounced earthquake drill will be conducted soon to further improve the disaster preparedness ability of the ISAT U academic community.

The ISAT U academic community joined the whole nation in the observance of the Philippine Environment Month by holding a series of activities participated by the students, faculty and employees.

The 188 employees, students and faculty from different colleges and organizations started the environmental campaign with the adopt-an-estero/waterbody program orchestrated clean-up at the Iloilo River on June 17. Armed with rakes, sacks, sticks and protected by masks and gloves, the group gathered 375.5 kilograms of garbage along the riverbanks of Brgy. Laguda, La Paz and the Promenade at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.

The Extension Services Division with the Gender and Development Office and the Environmental Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Office organized the one-hour environmental clean-up inthe different offices of the university in the morning on June 21.

To create awareness among the students, a lecture on environmental degradation and its impact to the lives of women, men and children was conducted by Mr. Edwin F. Mosura, Iloilo National High School Asst. Principal for Governance and Support.  It was followed by a poster making and song writing contest on the theme “Connecting People to Nature”. The teams from the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) took the first and second places while the entry from the College of Arts and Sciences got the third place. For the songwriting competition, the entry “Kina-iya” from the College of Education was declared Champion. “Awit ng Kalikasan” of BSIF, BSED and BSIS students and “Maglaho” from the CEA romped off with the second and third places, respectively.

To increase productivity and to promote team cooperation and bonding among the administrative staff, the ISAT U Employees Association held the summer capability building activities at Vista Veranda Resort, Madrangca, San Jose Antique on May 25-26, 2017.

The lecturers and activity facilitators were VPAF Dr. Nehema K. Misola who lectured on Administrative Concerns and CEA Dean Dr. Russ Allen B. Napud who discussed on capability building.

The Bonfire Activity and Socials and the Hataw Galaw sa Tag-araw were among the activities that brought closeness among the employees. An open forum on administrative concerns and the oath-taking of the organization’s appointed standing committee members were also conducted.

New faculty members of ISAT U system attended the orientation and induction training-workshop conducted by the Human Resource Department on May 30-31, 2017 at the HRT Service Center.

 Dr. Raul F. Muyong, ISAT U President, presented the University’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, Institutional Goals and Institutional Outcomes and Leveling of Expectations. He called on the 86 new entrants that as professors,  they should have something to profess, conduct research, and engage in extension services and production activities. “You should write a name for yourself,” he said. He added that teachers should teach by example.

The government policies on administration and finance was explained by VPAF Dr. Nehema K. Misola while VPRE Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut reviewed the research and extension services programs. The outcome based education and workshop was discussed and led by CEA Dean Dr. Russ Allen B. Napud.

Mr. John Esar T. David, Civil Service Commission (CSC) Field Office Acting Director, talked on the CSC laws, rules and regulations.

Other speakers were Dr. Ernesto S. Garin who shared his ideas on professionalism versus personalism; Dr. Renelda P. Nacianceno on ISO awareness; and Mr. Ned    P. Cababasay on NBC 461.

Iloilo Science and Technology University celebrated its second anniversary as a university on May 18, 2017. The simple celebration started with a solemn mass attended by the academic community at the Multi-purpose Gym at 8:00 in the morning.

In his message, Dr. Raul F. Muyong, thanked all the faculty and staff on what the school has achieved as a university.  He also encouraged everyone to serve with pride and utmost dedication.

ISAT U attained its university status through Commission on Higher Education (CHED) en banc Resolution No. 207-2015 on May 18, 2015 and is currently fast tracking infrastructure projects intended to improve the students’ services.

Some of the projects inaugurated as part of the celebration were the Science and Technology Building (N Building) and the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) building.  These facilities are now ready for the opening of classes for academic year 2017-2018.

The Science and Technology Building will be the new home of the College of Education and the Laboratory School.  The 38.6 million pesos facility features 17 classrooms, 1 audio-visual hall, 4 offices, 6 comfort rooms (3 for men and 3 for women) and 2 shower rooms. It is also equipped with complete fire protection system, terraces and an outdoor activity stage.

The Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) building is expected to beef up the instructional capability of the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Technology and other related courses.  The first floor of the  three-storey facility houses the hot and cold kitchen laboratories, lectures rooms and the offices. In the second floor are seven rooms with different features that will be used for instructional purposes and to accommodate guests as well. A spacious function hall at the third floor is readily available for different occasions.  The Phrase 3 of the construction of the TLE building costs 7, 025, 315. 91 pesos.

The newly refurbished third floor of the administration building with installed glass partitions and frameless glass door was also inaugurated. The 852, 754.78 pesos project will house the offices of the Vice President for External Affairs, Legal Division, Internal Audit Services and the Bids and Awards Committee.

 The signing of Memorandum of Agreement for the student teaching program between the College of Education and the Department of Education capped the day’s celebration.
