Fourteen year old Dana Loise Abbe Ledonio of the Laboratory School is this year’s Miss WVCST. The youngest among all the contestants, Dana won almost all the minor and special awards in the pageant.

Ledonio who was oozing with confidence and was very consistent with her beautiful smile and good projection wowed the spectators every time she showed up on stage, a reason not to doubt why she garnered a total of 11 awards aside from the title.

Dana Loise Abbe Ledonio won the best in Festival Costume, Production Number, Cocktail Dress, Formal Attire, Playsuit and Best in Interview. For the Special Awards, she also won the title Miss Splash, Miss Red Logo, Miss Telegenic, Miss Photogenic and JUN-G Candelario ‘s Choice of Beauty Award.

Meanwhile, John Jayson Dequiniana of the Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College in Miag-ao who is Best in Interview won Mr. WVCST 2013 title.

Miss Jcka Sugatan of SIPC is Miss WVCST 1ST runner up and RJ Nobleza of the Lab School for Mr. WVCST 1st runner up. For the 2nd runner up, the winners are Ma. Rocheleen Fandida (COE) and Don Dave de Dios (CIT). 3rd runner up is Nairah Pangadapun and Shann Silver Sorongon, both of the Laboratory School.

For minor awards, other winners are Shann Silver Sorongon (Lab School) for the best in Festival Costume, Production Number and Cocktail Attire. Best in Playsuit and Formal Attire is RJ Nobleza of Lab School and Best in Talent are Don Dave de Dios (CIT) and Jcka Sugatan of SIPC, Miag-ao.

Other winners of the special awards are Bernard Lagdamen (CIT) and Genesis Villamor (CIT) for Mr. & Miss Avon, People’s Choice Award went to RJ Nobleza and Nairah Pangadapun, both from Lab School, Mr. Telegenic and Photogenic Award is Don Dave de Dios, JUN-G Candelario’s Choice of Beauty for Men is Shann Silver Sorongon and Mr. & Miss Congeniality are Avelino Dahotoy (CAS) and Riza Mae Rojo (CEA).

After 37 years of serving Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Dr. Emma L. Paclibar, Vice President for Academic Affairs, bade goodbye to her duties and responsibilities as she enters her new life as a retiree. “Goodbye tension, hello pension.” This is how people should look at life after retiring from service –enjoyment with all the luxury of time to spend.

 However, according to Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr., College President, for him he feels a bit saddened that one reliable person in the administration will soon be away. On the other hand, he said, this is inevitable because everybody will be passing this way. Therefore, he said the celebration should be about camaraderie and friendship as well as reminiscing the happy moments shared together. He commended Dr. Emma Paclibar for doing an excellent job as she had served various jobs in the office, on stage, in sports and even in the kitchen. Dr. Sorolla also thanked her for all the golden moments they have shared,  wished her a great time after retiring and expressed his hope to see her in the campus every now and then for a visit.

Meanwhile, Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut, VP for Research and Extension, congratulated “Ma’am Pacs” (as they often call her) for her retirement for not everybody can reach this stage of professional career. According to him, she is not only known as a colleague but as a mother, a teacher and most of all, a friend. She is a professional worker and a confidante of family matters and somebody whom you can laugh out loud with.  Dr. Ambut mentioned that there is a beauty secret that she and Dr. Ambut share that’s why she remains sexy and beautiful inside and out. He recalls her saying “Whatever the problem is, just keep on smiling.” And that he said, makes him really grateful about Dr. Paclibar. He added that it is not the existence in this world that matters but the memories that we left in the hearts and minds of people that we dealt with. With this, Dr. Ambut  assured her that she will always remain in their hearts. He also wished her a healthy life and a happy retirement.

Dr. Nehema K. Misola on the other hand said that in times of difficult situations “Nanay Emma” knows how to deal with stress by spending little money on a joy ride. She can be silly and at the same time honorable and prestigious. For her service comes from the heart and no matter what her position is but when called to serve, she can offer everything even doing the marketing for the school’s athletes. These and all the lessons in life that she taught and the other beautiful memories according to her would be forever remembered and would surely be missed. Dr. Misola expressed her thanks for all the experience they had together be it in academics or friendship and wished her all the best things in life.

Dr. Ely Siasico from Miag-ao Campus, gave the best qualities of Dr. Paclibar using her name – EMMA L. PACLIBAR.  

Dr. John Eric Juaneza , Head of the TLE Department appreciated, all the things they’ve learned from Dr. Emma Paclibar, saying that she didn’t instruct how to do things, instead she showed it to her subordinates and served as their role model.

Engr. Carlos Lusante, Dr. Emma L. Paclibar’s brother, talked about how determined she is in studying despite of their economic status. She served as a role model to her other siblings not only as a consistent honor student but as a good cook, a responsible sister and a good person teacher and civil servant. At the end of his speech, Mrs. Jessica Gensola was declared winner in the title making contest for the life story of Dr. Paclibar through the challenge set by Engr. Carlos Lusante.

A plaque of recognition was awarded to the honoree and gifts were also given as well as a sumptuous dinner was prepared for her in the celebration of her 64^th birthday.

If there is someone who is most excited, happiest and very supportive of the celebration on the 108th Foundation Anniversary of WVCST, that person is no other than the College President, Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. In his speech in the opening ceremony, the President expressed how happy he is that WVCST has reached 108 years and is still soaring high. He said that it simply means that the College has been performing well because if not it wouldn’t have gone this far.

In addition, Dr. Sorolla encouraged everyone to continue giving their best because the College is starting to reap what they have been working for. “Continue to work hard, enjoy what you are doing especially in this celebration for this might be the last of our Foundation Anniversary as a College because sooner we will already become what we have been dreaming of… to become Iloilo Science and Technology University.” However, before achieving this, according to him, we shouldn’t stop dreaming and achieving goals. “Soar high and do what is best. Just be patient and pray that they will now give time to our documents. I know the time is coming nearer.”

The President also took the opportunity to thank everybody who has done their part for the success of this celebration but left high expectations for next year’s celebration because for him the school will be celebrating our next foundation anniversary not as a College but as a University.

After all the preparations, finally the big day has come! WVCST is celebrating its 108^th Foundation Anniversary from September 2 – 7, 2013.

The most awaited event started with a foot parade that set off as early as 6:00am at the Jaro Plaza passing Commission Civil Street to its final destination – the WVCST main campus . Upon the arrival to the campus, the concelebrated mass began with Most Rev. Angel N. Lagdameo, D. D. as the main celebrant. The other priests who joined him were Rev. Fr. Ricky Soriano, The Parochial Vicar of St. John Parish in Dingle, Rev. Fr. Alfon Berbegal, the Parochial Vicar of Sta.Barbara Parish, both were graduates of WVCST , and the Parish Priest of LaPaz, Rev. Fr. Renato Cuadras.

The participating teams composed of different Colleges from the Main Campus as well as the Satellite Campuses together with their muses and escorts then paraded to the grandstand for the opening of the ceremony. This year’s keynote speaker is Congressman Arcadio H. Gorriceta of the 2^nd District of Iloilo. The Office of Congressman Jerry P. Treñas was also represented by Mr. Noel S. Panaguiton, his Asst. Chief of Staff.

Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr., WVCST President, opened th108th Foundation Anniversary celebration and was immediately followed by a field demonstration –Fitness Zumba, participated in by the students from the different Colleges.

Right after the declaration of the Foundation Anniversary open, the Robotics Skills Competition started which was participated in by the students from different Colleges as well as the Satellite Campuses. High School students from different schools were also invited to see to competition and at the same time they were given a chance to participate in answering trivia questions which earned them prizes given by NOKIA.

Meanwhile, to challenge the ability of the students on critical thinking and decision making, a Science and Math Challenge was held in the afternoon which was participated by students in teams and individual category.
