Mr. Dirksen Kai Pence, lecturer on English Communication from National Institute of Technology Sasebo College, Japan, delivered a special lecture entitled “Studying English Makes Scents: An Interactive Lecture Using English to Reminisce Memories and Feelings” on February 26, 2026 – 1:00 PM at the University Library.
The session offered a unique and engaging approach to language learning by integrating sensory experiences with English communication. Throughout the lecture, participants were encouraged to imagine words described by the speaker, allowing them to connect language with personal thoughts and emotions.

As part of the activity, students expressed their interpretations by drawing their feelings at that particular moment, fostering creativity and deeper reflection.
Adding a distinctive element to the session, the speaker introduced various perfumes and invited participants to smell them. Students were then asked to associate each scent with memories and experiences, demonstrating how language can be used to articulate emotions and recall personal narratives.
