In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly and threatens social trust, Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) took a proactive step by hosting Undersecretary Claire Castro for the “Usap Tayo, Bayan Muna” Media Information Literacy Campaign on April 16, 2026. The initiative aims to empower the academic community with the critical skills needed to identify, challenge, and prevent the harmful effects of fake news.

The event which was held at the Students’ Services Building, drew strong participation, with more than 300 students from across the ISAT U system joining the campaign. Their presence underscored the growing awareness among the youth of the urgent need to safeguard truth in the digital space. Before the talk, the students had fun joining the Q&A game prepared by the Presidential Communications Office where winners received special edition tumblers.

Undersecretary Castro delivered a compelling message, emphasizing how misinformation erodes national unity and undermines informed decision-making. She urged ISAT U students to remain vigilant in fact-checking and to actively combat the spread of false information. More importantly, she encouraged them to extend their knowledge beyond the classroom—helping their families, especially parents, to distinguish between credible news and misleading content.
The campaign highlights the university’s commitment to fostering responsible digital citizenship among its students. By equipping the youth with media literacy skills, ISAT U strengthens its role as a catalyst for truth, integrity, and civic responsibility in the digital age.
