The session brought together media practitioners and institutional communicators across Western Visayas to strengthen public information strategies, enhance media relations, and promote collaborative storytelling in support of regional development. It also featured discussions on financial health and cybersecurity, highlighting the importance of financial literacy and responsible information dissemination.
One of the key topics focused on empowering Filipinos to achieve financial health through savings, opening a bank account, managing everyday financial needs, and preparing for emergencies. Ms. Perlita Montemayor discussed the risks associated with unsolicited messages and calls from individuals claiming to represent financial institutions and requesting sensitive personal information. Participants were reminded never to disclose one-time passwords (OTPs), passwords, and other confidential account details, as doing so could compromise their financial security.
Meanwhile, Mr. Alvin A. Tolosa, Deputy Director of the Consumer Protection and Market Conduct Office, outlined the ALERT steps to follow when encountering scams: Avoid further engagement, Lock accounts, gather Evidence, Report the incident to financial institutions, and Tell the appropriate authorities. The session concluded with an open forum, allowing participants to raise questions and gain further insights into the topics discussed.
