Iloilo Science and Technology University and NIT Sasebo College Strengthen Ties Through Student Exchange Program 2026

ISAT University, Philippines and the National Institute of Technology Sasebo College (NITSC), Japan continue to strengthen their academic partnership through a dynamic student exchange program that promotes global learning, cultural understanding, and academic collaboration.

As part of the exchange, three (3) students from ISAT University: Mr. Reynaldo Jose Suello, III – BSCS 3B, Mr. Dynn Aleksandr Basco, BSCS 4A, and Mr. Christian Eduard Falconite – BSA 4A, along with Dr. May Florence Franco – Faculty, College of Computing and Informatics, traveled to Sasebo, Japan from December 6–13, 2025 for a seven-day academic and cultural immersion. During their stay, the students participated in industry immersions, attended classes, and engaged in language and cultural exchange activities. They also had the opportunity to visit various places in Japan, enriching their understanding of Japanese culture and innovation.

In return, ISAT University hosted three (3) students from NITSC for a one-month exchange program from February 23 to March 28, 2026. The delegation includes three third-year students from the Department of Control Engineering, Mr. Yuma Kubo, Mr. Fuga Matsunaga, and Mr. Kouki Mori, accompanied by visiting faculty member Mr. Dirksen Kai Pence.The visiting students attended classes related to engineering, information technology, and electronics, allowing them to experience the academic environment and instructional approaches of the University.

Beyond the classroom, the students actively participated in language and cultural exchange sessions, fostering meaningful connections with their Filipino counterparts. They also explored several cultural sites in Iloilo and Guimaras, gaining deeper appreciation of local heritage and traditions.

The student exchange program highlights the shared commitment of both institutions to internationalization, providing students with valuable opportunities to broaden their perspectives, enhance their skills, and become globally competent individuals.

Through initiatives like this, ISAT University and NIT Sasebo College continue to build strong international linkages, paving the way for future collaborations and enriching educational experiences for their students.

Iloilo Science and Technology University Holds First-Ever Earth Hour Celebration 2026

ISAT University marked a significant milestone with the successful conduct of its first-ever Earth Hour Celebration, led by the National and International Affairs Office in collaboration with the Student Republic, NSTP, and students from major, minor, and special organizations.

The event brought together the university community in a unified effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. It began with a rationale and global context delivered by the Vice President for External Affairs, Dr. Juniffer B. Badoles, emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing climate change. This was followed by a safety briefing from the  Safety, Security, Environment and Disaster Mitigation Management Office to ensure the well-being of all participants throughout the activity.

A highlight of the program was the lights-off countdown at 8:30 PM led by University President, Dr, Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., officially marking the start of Earth Hour. This symbolic act was followed by the lighting of a bonfire and a candle-lighting activity, where more than 120 participants formed the number “60” on the field—representing the global “60 minutes” of Earth Hour and the shared commitment to protect the planet.

Throughout the hour, the atmosphere was filled with meaningful and engaging activities, including singing, dancing, and messages of reflection that encouraged participants to think about their role in environmental conservation. The event also featured the signing of a sustainability pledge, reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering responsible and eco-conscious individuals.

The celebration concluded with a community singing activity, followed by the lights being turned back on at 9:30 PM—symbolizing hope, unity, and continued action beyond Earth Hour.

Through this initiative, ISAT University reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship, demonstrating that small, collective actions can lead to significant impact.

Droplets of Change: Inspiring Stories of Water Conservation in Schools Around the World

ISAT University, lead by the National and International Affairs Office, in partnership with the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Western Visayas International Relations Officers Council (WVIROC), successfully hosted an online celebration of World Water Day 2026 on March 24, 2026, with the theme “Droplets of Change: Inspiring Stories of Water Conservation in Schools Around the World.”

The activity aimed to promote awareness on the importance of water conservation and highlight the role of educational institutions in fostering sustainable practices. It also served as a platform for knowledge-sharing among partner institutions, encouraging collaboration and global engagement on environmental initiatives.

The program commenced with a welcome remarks from the OIC University President, Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut and called on everyone to act, emphasizing that change requires more than discussion. This is followed by an opening message from the Vice President for External Affairs, Dr. Juniffer B. Badoles, who emphasized the rationale of the event and the urgent need to conserve water resources in the face of growing environmental challenges.

Mr. Alfredo Tayo III, General Manager of MIWD, then delivered his message which underscored the responsibility of academic institutions to lead in sustainability efforts and inspire communities to take action.

Each speaker presented their respective programs and practices on water conservation, showcasing innovative approaches and their positive impact on local communities and environments.

After the presentations, Ms. Edel Carmela Subong-Csoka, President of WVIROC also delivered an inspiring message encouraging participants to adopt simple yet meaningful actions in conserving water, while also inspiring institutions to develop and strengthen sustainability programs.

Through this initiative, ISAT University reaffirmed its commitment to global partnerships and environmental stewardship, emphasizing that collective efforts—no matter how small—can lead to significant and lasting change.

Mr. Pence, Foreign Lecturer from Japan, Delivers Interactive English Lecture to Reminisce Memories and Feelings at ISAT University

Mr. Dirksen Kai Pence, lecturer on English Communication from National Institute of Technology Sasebo College, Japan, delivered a special lecture entitled “Studying English Makes Scents: An Interactive Lecture Using English to Reminisce Memories and Feelings” on February 26, 2026 – 1:00 PM at the University Library.

The session offered a unique and engaging approach to language learning by integrating sensory experiences with English communication. Throughout the lecture, participants were encouraged to imagine words described by the speaker, allowing them to connect language with personal thoughts and emotions.

As part of the activity, students expressed their interpretations by drawing their feelings at that particular moment, fostering creativity and deeper reflection.

Adding a distinctive element to the session, the speaker introduced various perfumes and invited participants to smell them. Students were then asked to associate each scent with memories and experiences, demonstrating how language can be used to articulate emotions and recall personal narratives.

NGO Loob Save Children Network (SCN) Work Camp Intercultural Activity with ISAT University

ISAT University recently hosted an intercultural activity in partnership with NGO Loob Save Children Network (SCN) as part of its work camp program on February 12, 2026. The activity featured a meaningful cultural and educational exchange between Japanese high school students and ISAT U students from the College of Engineering and Architecture and the College of Computing and Informatics.

The intercultural session provided a platform for students to share ideas, experiences, and perspectives on education, innovation, and community engagement. Through collaborative discussions and interactive activities, participants gained deeper appreciation of each other’s cultures, academic disciplines, and social advocacies.

The Japanese students are composed of SCN Leader, Mr. Toda Tomo, together with his members, Mr. Musashi Wada, Mr. Matsubayashi Ayumu, Mr. Ota Hiroyuki, Mr. Yoshitake Kohei, Ms. Kori Kirara, Ms. Teradishi Nanami, Ms. Nagoya Tae, Ms. Yamaoka Yume, Ms. Fuki Kirari, Ms. Tsuji Yuko, Ms. Matsumoto Noi, Ms. Taniguchi Tomoe, and Ms. Tokunaga Yukina.
